Jolaine Underschute placed 3rd at the 2019 CrossFit Games (and 2018!). She started CrossFit back in 2008. It was her 6th games appearance since 2013. She also competed at regionals 5 times until she was well in to her 40’s. Here is a bit about her last season:
RUN UP TO THE GAMES:
Jolaine’s run up to the games this year wasn’t smooth. She was been plagued with shoulder issues for most of the season with both an AC joint injury and an injury to the biceps/deltoid muscle/tendon. She also has an issue with her right hip which was affecting her sleep and her calves constantly seize up. She was sick for the entire month of June and wasn’t sure if she would even be able to compete at the Games.
WORK LIFE BALANCE:
When asked about her work life balance Jolaine replied that she isn’t sure of she has figured that part out yet!!! She is a single mother, a coach and an elite athlete. 5-6 days a week her days are filled with coaching, nutrition coaching, training, and any spare time is spent with her 9 year old son.
FAVOURITE MOMENTS OF THE 2019 SEASON:
Standing on the podium. She felt she had the odds against her so well done Jolaine. Finishing the 6km Ruck run without stopping! She said she found this event very mentally challenging.
THING TO KNOW ABOUT JOLAINE:
1) She loves the water and has a hard time staying out of any lake, river, the ocean. She thinks she might be part fish.
2) She is a single mom with a nine year old son
3) She has a cranky thyroid and easily gains muscle and body fat
We love watching you compete Jolaine. Congrats on your 3rd place finish in 2019. No doubt we will see you back in 2020!!!
